The brief
Baldovino is a family run Italian Restaurant in Thornbury, Melbourne. The crew at Baldovino chose i4U to create their restaurant’s online presence. My brief was to create an online ambience that was simple, elegant and reflected the atmosphere of the live restaurant. The inspiration for the design came from Baldovino’s logo. I wanted the design to have a seamless transition from the pictures and text to the logo.
It is professional practice to design websites for the common denominator of users. Therefore, we design websites to fit into a screen width of 1024 pixels. With a larger screen, the website can look very ‘contained’ so we used the red logo band to make the website appear to utilize the screen real estate more effectively.
Additionally we made each image fade into the background so there was no defined website ‘edge.’ This helped create the illusion of an edgeless website.
Extras
As the amount of larger screen resolutions increases, clients are worried about the design fitting their entire screen. Since it is best practice to cater for the most common user, we try to create websites that give the illusion they are bigger when viewed on larger screen resolutions.
