The brief

Fluffy is the Sunday evening event held at the Family Nightclub in Brisbane. The Little Mermaid was part of a monthly series of eight Fairytales or more appropriately “Fluffy Tales.”

Fluffy’s Giselle was a natural choice to play Ariel the little mermaid because Giselle also has vibrant red hair. To create the artwork I sourced numerous images for parts of the character and scenery and then carefully constructed a scene before moving into Illustrator to create a vectorized version. I then painstakingly drew the mermaid into the scene paying close attention to the facial expression of the character. This scene is based around the Little Mermaid retreating into solitude after realizing she can not be with her prince. I wanted to express the sadness and desire the Little Mermaid/Giselle has to be human and be with her beloved Prince. The scene is dark and somber to reflect the mood and allow the viewer to focus on the solitary character.
